PRP treatment for breast augmentation

The blood platelets have many important functions in the body and one of them is stimulating tissue healing and regeneration. With its unique reparative ability, platelets have been used in various applications, from medical treatments to aesthetic procedures for the face and hair. More recently, it’s gained attention as a safe non-surgical option for breast enhancement.

So how do platelet rich plasma treatments work for a breast lift? PRP therapy is a non-invasive breast lift option that uses injections of a patient’s own blood to promote new tissue growth. This will improve the overall shape, firmness, and texture of the breasts. Unlike breast augmentation surgery, PRP treatments have very minimal side effects since it uses natural elements extracted from a patient’s blood.

Using Platelet Rich Plasma Injections for Breast Lift

While breast enhancement isn’t a new cosmetic procedure, the use of PRP injections for a breast lift may not yet be familiar to most patients. Traditionally, the most effective way to enhance the size and shape of the chest is to get breast implants but in 2015, Dr. Charles Runels introduced the use of PRP as a possible alternative to a surgical breast lift.

According to Dr. Runels, the new breast lift option uses the same technology and mechanism of action as a PRP facelift treatment. Just like most PRP procedures, there’s no surgery required in a platelet rich plasma breast lift session and it only needs a few injections to the chest area.

This type of breast augmentation utilizes the regenerative powers of the platelets and boosts the body’s healing process to grow new breast tissue. Platelets also contain a rich amount of growth factors and proteins that are necessary for new elastin and collagen production. These will help tighten the skin and reduce sagging to give the breasts a plump and lifted appearance.

What Results Can You See With PRP Breast Lift Treatments?

Similar to how a PRP injection provides natural-looking enhancements to the skin, it can also subtly improve the appearance of an aging breast. Its results may not be as dramatic compared to a surgical procedure where a patient can have an instant increase in cup size. However, PRP can restore the breast tissues to create fuller-looking, perkier, and more youthful breasts.

Here are some of the improvements that a PRP breast lift can provide:

1. Improved Breast Firmness and Fullness

Sagging breasts are one of the main reasons why women opt to get a surgical breast enhancement. It’s a natural change that happens to the body as a result of aging, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and loss of collagen that pulls the breasts downward.

A PRP treatment can help increase the production of elastin and collagen which will regrow new fatty tissue to improve the shape and volume of the breasts. This will also enhance elasticity and restore structural support in the breasts, making them look firmer, taut, and rounder.

2. Enhanced Skin Texture and Tone

Some breasts may also have uneven skin tone and texture as a result of excess sun exposure or hormonal changes. PRP injections can promote increased blood flow which can nourish the skin cells and improve the breast texture and appearance and provide a smoother-looking chest.

3. Minimized Wrinkles, Fine Lines, and Stretch Marks on Cleavage Area

PRP breast lifts can also help lighten the stretch mark or soften the visible wrinkles on the cleavage area. The treatment can boost tissue regeneration and skin cell growth to effectively reduce the wrinkles, stretch marks, and scars on the chest region.

4. Corrected Nipple Inversion

Inverted nipples are a condition where the nipples are going inward or lying flat against the areola. It’s not a particular cause for concern but they can make breastfeeding difficult. PRP breast lift injections can also provide the benefit of reversing inversion and increasing the sensation and sensitivity in the nipple area.

When Can You See Improvements From PRP Breast Lift?

The results of a PRP breast augmentation treatment aren’t immediate as it takes into consideration the time it takes to grow new tissue and collagen. Most changes are gradual and can take about 3 months before a patient can see the full results. Once the effects of the initial PRP breast lift are fully visible, they can last for about 1 to 2 years before requiring another treatment.

Is PRP Breast Augmentation Safe?

PRP is an autologous treatment that uses a patient’s own growth factors, so they’re mostly safe and have very little risk for adverse effects and complications. But as with any procedure, the treatment also comes with some minor side effects. Some of the post-injection reactions to expect are:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Temporary increased sensitivity
  • Mild itching

These side effects are usually temporary and can go away on their own after a few days. But patients should immediately contact their provider if there are other unusual reactions such as persistent pain, bleeding, or inflammation in the breast region.

What to Expect From a PRP Breast Lift Procedure

Before a PRP breast lift procedure, patients should have a consultation with their provider to discuss their goals and the changes that they want to achieve. Prior to the day of the treatment, it’s important to avoid taking steroids and anti-inflammatory medications for at least a week. These medications may affect the patient’s platelet count and function and compromise the results of the injections.

Since it’s non-surgical, the PRP procedure is straightforward and usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The treatment involves three main steps:

  • Blood extraction: The PRP session will begin with a quick blood draw from the patient’s arm.
  • Centrifugation: After collecting the blood sample, it will be placed in a centrifuge machine to separate the platelets from the red blood cells and white blood cells.
  • Injection proper: Before administering the PRP serum to the breast, a numbing cream will be applied to reduce discomfort and sensitivity from the injections. The provider will use tiny needles to deliver the PRP solution into the injection sites on the breasts.

Who Are Good Candidates for PRP Breast Lift?

PRP injections are a safe treatment choice for anyone who’s looking to improve the natural look of their breasts. However, there are certain factors that may affect a patient’s eligibility for a platelet rich plasma breast lift procedure. The treatment may not be recommended for patients who meet the following criteria:

  • They have severe sagging or excess skin on the breast area
  • They’re at risk of breast cancer due to family history
  • They’re currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • They want to increase their cup size

As a breast augmentation treatment, PRP can restore fullness, shape, and smoother skin appearance to the chest region. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s not a solution to increasing breast cup or bust size. Some patients may opt to combine PRP injections with a fat transfer for more desirable breast lift results.
