Anagen Phase. This phase is where 90% of hair growth occurs. During which the base of the hair is constantly dividing, adding to the hair shaft. The hair typically grows about 1 cm every 28 days. The hair on your head stays in this active phase of growth for 2–7 years.
Catagen phase. In this phase, an unknown signal is sent to end the continuous growth of hair. This stage lasts for about 2 to 3 weeks while the hair changes to become club hair. During this phase, the hair is cut off from its blood supply. This stops the cells from producing new hair. This process takes about two weeks to produce club hair, after which the hair enters the telogen phase.
Telogen phase. This is also referred to as the resting phase of the hair follicle. When the body is subjected to extreme stress, some hair can enter this stage prematurely, causing hair to fall out. Fifty to one-hundred club hair are shed daily from a healthy scalp.
