Understanding Optical Density (OD)
Optical Density (OD) is a measure of how much laser energy the eyewear blocks: like “tint level” on very powerful sunglasses. The higher the number, the more protection it offers.
- OD 1: Allows 10% of light to pass through (blocks 90%).
- OD 6: Allows only 0.0001% of light to pass through (blocks 99.9999%).
Always match the OD rating to your specific laser’s wavelength and power.
